Today, Essiac is a Canadian trademark name, legally owned by Essiac Canada International, for Rene Caisse's original proprietary herbal formula consisting of 4 specific herbal ingredients, which must be specifically grown and harvested, and then blended together to make up the formulation. Manufacturing Essiac is not so simple. If that were so, then Rene Caisse would have gladly given the Essiac recipe out to the public before she passed away in 1978. There are many formulations on the internet claiming to be Rene Caisse’s Essiac formula, by falsely using Rene Caisse’s Canadian trademark name of “Essiac” and by falsely using Rene Caisse’s identity to promote their product.
Researching the internet in the year of 2006/2007 has found altered and misleading facts of Rene Caisse’s history and found many web sites are also using Rene Caisse’s identity to promote their own herbal formulations as if they were Essiac. In a way, this is a form of identity theft by using Rene Caisse’s identity and her life long legacy to promote their herbal blends that are not sanctioned by Rene Caisse.
The 4 herb formula Essiac used and promoted by Nurse Rene Caisse was signed over to the Resperin Corporation in 1977. This formulation was eventually signed over to Essiac Product Inc. based in Canada and is now manufactured only by Essiac Canada International.
